Ceasefire

Ceasefire is a national program to reduce gun violence and the impacts on communities. Gresham’s Ceasefire partners with community groups, police, health services and city leaders to provide focused outreach to reduce gun violence.

Ceasefire goals

The Ceasefire team connects at-risk individuals with the help they need. Ceasefire aims to:

  • Address the root causes of violence in our community.
  • Prevent gun violence and acts of retaliation.
  • Reduce the number of people hurt by gun violence.
  • Provide focused prevention and personalized services to at-risk youth in the community.

How Ceasefire works

  1. Reviews shooting data from the past two years to identify people in the community most at risk of violence.
  2. Regularly reviews crime data with Multnomah County and nearby cities in investigative meetings.
  3. Coordinates meetings with law enforcement and community organizations providing intensive case management.
  4. Offers culturally specific support, through community organizations, for youth and adults for three to 18 months. Services may include team activities, mentorship, job training and access to health resources to support success.
  5. Works with community partners to evaluate interventions, cases and community needs.
