Housing-Related Code Updates

The City is updating its development code to reflect state law for affordable housing and emergency shelters. 

The following went into effect in 2021:

• Senate Bill 8, under certain conditions, allows developing affordable housing on property not zoned for residential use. On property zoned for residential use, it allows increased density and height.
• House Bill 3261 allows converting a hotel/motel property to use as an emergency shelter. It also allows converting a hotel/motel to use as affordable housing, including properties that were emergency shelters before. 

Updating the development code allows us to provide more options in our community.
