Skills for the job

Desire to work mostly hands-on in buildings and grounds surrounding facilities.
Enjoy using equipment and tools in construction and repair.
Knowledge of basic building and grounds maintenance practices.
Operation of power tools.
Perform heavy, manual works under confined and uncomfortable conditions. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Operate a computer and learn basic City computer applications.
Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
Handle high levels of stress due to heavy workload and frequent task prioritization changes Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines for mechanic work.
Provide customer service to customers and staff.
May be required to lift heavy equipment and materials more than 50 pounds. May be required to work at heights more than 20 feet.

Education

A high school diploma or GED-certificate. Trade or technical school, or additional experience in skilled trade areas (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, vehicle mechanic) may be required for certain positions.
