Why did you choose this career?
I was looking for a job that was dynamic and fulfilling. What I got is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work in a diverse community with some of the best coworkers out there.
What do you enjoy about working at the City of Gresham?
I work in my hometown. Knowing that I can help make a difference to the population I grew up in is unique, and I know that I am very lucky.
What do you do, in a nutshell?
I am part of a team that serves the people in all 911 emergencies.
What's your best advice to someone entering the field?
Be humble, work hard and never give up. The requirements it takes to become a firefighter are difficult, but it is worth it. Meet people in the industry and ask what they did to get the badge and what they would have done differently.
What are three qualities that help you excel at your job?
1. Team player 2. Self-motivated 3. Physically fit
What was your first job?
First job: Sales associate at Levi's outlet store at 16. First job in firefighting: Became a volunteer firefighter EMT at 18. First job utilizing my degree: Physician substitute at Talecris Plasma Resources at 20.
