Meet Eduardo: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Why did you choose this career?

I like to fix stuff, and I’m very passionate about electricity.

What do you enjoy about working at the City of Gresham? 

I love it. I never thought, when I look back, a kid from a single mom … never thought I'd be working in a place like this. Been working hard to get to this point, not having the chance to go to school, and working twice as hard with the language barrier.

What do you do, in a nutshell?

Fix anything that is broken.

What's your best advice to someone entering the field?

This is a great field because you are always doing something different. It's fun when you see the results. 

What are three qualities that help you excel at your job?

Team player, doing my best to resolve the issue (problem solving), and a positive attitude.

What was your career path?

A GED diploma. I’m planning to continue education.

What do you learn on the job?

Customer service is one of my stronger suits, to be friendly. I learn quickly how to fix things.

What was your first job?

Started in Mexico as a kid. I worked in agriculture, planting sugar cane and corn, only 11 years old. When the sun goes up to when the sun goes down.
