Water Flushing

  • Annual flushing of waterlines is necessary to flush out sediment in pipes and check valves and hydrants for reliability. Flushing occurs during rain heavy months when there is less impact to regional water supplies. Water flushing occurs January through April each year.

  • What not to do during flushing

    • Do not turn on your water between 9 am and 4 pm if flushing is happening in your neighborhood.
    • Do not run appliances that use water such as refrigerators with a water dispenser, dishwashers and washing machines.

If you notice discolored water after flushing has been completed in your area

    • Flushing may stir up sediment, resulting in temporarily-discolored water.
    • Turn on each cold water faucet and allow the water to run until it is clear again.
    • Flush each toilet two times.
