    Gresham citizens can anonymously dispose of unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs in an eco-friendly manner by simply dropping the drugs in the slotted door. Police officers collect the contents and prepare them for disposal in accordance with federal and state laws.

     Leave medications in original containers if possible.

    • Expired prescription medication
    • Drugs that are no longer used
    • Medicine from deceased family members
    • Pet medications
    • Unknown tablets and capsules.
    • Thermometers
    • Needles
    • Epinephrine autoinjectors (EpiPens)
    • Liquids or medical waste of any kind
    • Medications cannot be accepted from businesses such as nursing homes, medical offices or any other institution or business. 

    Dispose of sharp containers and other medical waste

    Dispose of prescription drugs properly 

    Never flush prescription drugs down the toilet or pour them down the drain.

    • If no drug collection program is available in your area, take your prescription drugs out of their original containers and mix drugs with an undesirable substance, such as cat litter, coffee grounds, sawdust or any other material that makes it less appealing for pets and children to eat.
    • Place the mixture into a disposable container with a lid, such as an empty margarine tub, or into a sealable bag and place in trash.
    • Empty plastic drug containers can go in the recycling bin if they are 6 ounces or larger. 
    • Remove or destroy any personal information, including prescription number, on the empty containers by covering it with black permanent marker or scratching it off.
