A Gresham woman caused a disturbance and left a trail of damage with her vehicle while making an escape as Police arrived.
On Oct. 30 at 11:00 pm, officers responded to a disturbance in the 4100 block of NE Eighth Street. A caller reported a woman was trying to break into the neighbor’s condominium and refusing to leave.
After the first officer had arrived and exited his patrol vehicle, the suspect fled the scene in her vehicle, a white Subaru. While making her escape, the suspect backed into several parked cars, drove through a fence, struck the first arriving officer’s unoccupied patrol vehicle several times, and hit a carport structure.
A second arriving officer attempted to stop the suspect with emergency lights, but the suspect drove off quickly on Eighth Street and the officer did not engage in a vehicle pursuit. The suspect continued south on Kane Drive until crashing into a median and then crashed into an occupied vehicle south of Powell Valley Road.
Two of the three occupants of the vehicle the suspect crashed into were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, Rebecca Calkins, 22, was transported to an area hospital and admitted for treatment of her injuries. Calkins is facing multiple counts of Criminal Mischief I, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, and Vehicular Assault.
Anyone who witnessed or has video of this incident is asked to call the Gresham Police Tip Line at 503-618-2719.
