Patrol sergeant traffic stop leads to drug seizure

A Gresham Police patrol sergeant made a late-night traffic stop leading to an arrest and the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit drugs.

On Nov. 12, after 11:00 pm, the sergeant stopped a vehicle leaving a motel in the 2300 block of NE 181st Ave. The occupants of the vehicle ran from the stop, leaving behind a large quantity of various illicit drugs in the vehicle.

A canine search ensued, and the driver of the vehicle was located as well as additional drugs. The driver, Oswaldo Cruz-Barahona, 21, was lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on suspicion of unlawful possession of schedule II drugs and unlawful manufacture/delivery of schedule II drugs.

The following was seized as a result of the traffic stop:

  • 2196 suspected fentanyl pills “blues”
  • 67 grams Diphenidine - schedule II designer drug
  • 30 grams fentanyl powder
  • 12 grams methamphetamine
  • 6 grams cocaine
  • $926 cash
