Gresham's Strategic Plan defines community's vision for the future

August 17, 2022

The City is pleased to announce Mayor and City Council adopted a three-year citywide Strategic Plan on Tuesday, Aug. 16, taking an important step forward in the pursuit of our shared vision for the future.

"Last night's adoption of the City's first Strategic Plan in decades represents a new and hopeful beginning for Gresham,” said Mayor Travis Stovall. “After nearly a full calendar year of engagement, community conversations, and listening sessions, we have a bold and ambitious road map, crafted to enhance our quality of life and elevate every neighborhood in our city."

Five strategic priorities

Gresham’s citywide Strategic Plan defines the community's vision for the future and focuses City resources on five critical strategic priorities:

  • Financial sustainability
  • Community safety
  • Thriving economy
  • Housing for all
  • Community vibrancy

These priorities, and the goals and objectives that support them, were drawn from substantial community input and will drive the City’s progress toward meaningful outcomes for the people of Gresham. The City will provide progress reports and evaluations of the plan's success measures.

City Manager Nina Vetter said, "Together, we built a plan we can be proud of. We charted the course, and now I look forward to implementing this plan with the help of the City's dedicated and hardworking staff."

Over the past 10 months, expert consultants at BerryDunn guided City Council and staff through the planning process, assessing the City's operating environment, exploring community and staff needs, and incorporating input from a diverse range of community stakeholders.

The City is grateful for the thousands of community members who took the time to participate in the Imagine Gresham engagement effort. From sharing your needs, ideas for the future, top priorities, and feedback on the plan itself. This plan was truly made for the community and by the community.
