Gresham Lilac Run celebrates year three

May 11, 2021

The City hosted its third annual Gresham Lilac Run presented by Unitus Community Credit Union on May 8 and 9. With COVID-19 precautions in place, more than 300 Lilac Run athletes gathered in staggered heats to complete 5k, 10k, and half marathon courses that cruised along parts of the Springwater Corridor, the Saddle Butte Trail and the Butler Creek Trail.

Athletes from all over the world laced up virtually as well. With people from as far away as Norway, Kentucky, Illinois and five other states, nearly 60 people ran virtually in celebration of the Gresham Lilac Run.

For the third year, all runner fees went directly to our race beneficiary, Family of Friends Mentoring. Thanks to nearly 400 Lilac Run athletes, the race community raised more than $13,000 for Family of Friends to support their powerful impact on kids and families in East Multnomah County through the power of mentorship.

In 2022, the City plans to select the Lilac Run race beneficiary through an application process. More details on that process will be available later this summer.

The Lilac Run is entirely sponsorship funded and without the generous support of many event sponsors, this event would not be possible. Shortly before even opening its Gresham branch, Unitus Community Credit Union wanted to make an impact in this community and stepped up as the presenting sponsor for year one in 2019, again in 2020, and then with unwavering support for the third year.

Bronze sponsors, also participating for the third time, include Migration Brewing and Konell Construction & Demolition Corp.

Event partners include: Country Coffee Gresham; Marathon Printing, Inc.; Tailor Johnson with NextHome NW Realty; Eastwind Running & Endurance; Cure Hydration, Bob’s Red Mill, the Old Spaghetti Factory and US World Class Taekwondo.

The 2022 Gresham Lilac Run is already scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 30. Registration will open later this fall.
