Gresham's first-ever Lilac Run sells out; 550 runners and walkers to explore beautiful trails

April 4, 2019

The Gresham Lilac Run, the City’s first 5K run/walk, 10K and half-marathon event, is sold out at 550 participants, with runner fees donated to nonprofit volunteer mentoring organization, Family of Friends. On Saturday, April 13, runners and walkers will gather at Gresham City Hall at 1333 NW Eastman Parkway between 7:30-8:30 am to start their leg of the event. Unitus Community Credit Union is the presenting sponsor for the event, which concludes by 11:00 am.

“One of our highest priorities is building a safe, vibrant and fun community for our children and families. Not only will this event showcase one of Gresham’s hidden gems – our amazing trails and natural beauty – but we will also support our partner, Family of Friends, as they work to create opportunity for children in need right here in our community,” said Gresham Mayor Shane Bemis.

Runners and walkers will make their way through charming historic downtown Gresham and Main City Park before diverging into their individual courses. Participants will enjoy scenic vistas on a diverse network of trails, including the Gresham-Fairview Trail, Gresham Butte Saddle Trail, Butler Creek Trail and the Springwater Corridor. All routes end back at Gresham City Hall, where runners will be presented with a medal. Sponsors Chris Cakes NW will dish up hot cakes and links, Migration Brewing will serve cold brew for those 21 and over, and Core Coffee will offer fresh Coava coffee.

Through the free Little Lilac 1k Run, 100 future runners-in-training 12 and under will complete a short course down Gresham’s Wy’East Way to receive a medal and bragging rights.

All race expenses were funded through the generous support of our sponsors. As a result, the City has donated all runner event fees—a total of $21,077—to nonprofit partner, Family of Friends, which connects children in Gresham and East County in need of support with volunteer mentors.

Many thanks to presenting sponsor Unitus Community Credit Union, as well as Owens Corning, ON Semiconductor, Migration Brewing Company, Core Coffee, Powell Valley Assisted Living & Memory Care, Mt Hood Community College, Eastwind Running & Endurance, Konell Construction & Demolition Corp., Marathon Printing, University of Western States, NW Canine Cakes and Tailor Johnson at NextHome NW Realty.
The event is sold out with a waitlist; day-of signups will not be available.
