Senior Healthy Hikers - Catherine Creek Hike

  • Distance: About 3.5 miles
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation gain: 500 feet
  • Trail conditions: Paved and gravel trails
  • Round-trip travel: 122 miles
  • Suggested donation per rider: $12

The first part of the hike is a short, easy, paved one-mile loop on the south side of the parking area, with wild flowers and views of the Columbia River Gorge from The Dalles to Hood River. The second part of the hike goes uphill, following an old ranch road where it crosses Catherine Creek. The trail passes a rock arch that looms over an abandoned corral. The arch is culturally significant to Native Americans. The trail/road then climbs a short uphill stretch and heads into a side valley with pine trees and wild flowers and then loops down a trail to the parking lot.

Bring water and snacks and wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes and long pants, as there are ticks and poison oak in the area. Walking sticks are recommended. We will eat lunch later in Hood River at Bette’s Place on 416 Oak Street.
