Senior Healthy Hikers - Moulton Falls Hike Nov. 2018

  • Round-trip travel: 92 miles
  • Difficulty: Easy/moderate
  • Elevation gain: 260 feet, almost flat
  • Suggested donation per rider: $9

From Hantwick Road Trailhead, the trail for this out-and-back 5.9-mile hike is paved for the first half mile and then turns into a wide gravel road that is shared by hikers, joggers, and occasional bikers, but is not busy during the week days. Most of the trail runs along the east fork of the Lewis River and is under a canopy of Red cedars, alders, Douglas firs, and big-leaf maples all along the river. It is a good trail even on a hot day.

We will stop and view the very pretty Lucia Falls before arriving at the Hantwick Road Trailhead parking and use flush toilets. Otherwise, there are two Honey Buckets at the trailhead parking. We will also view Yacolt Falls and visit Chelatchie Prairie Railroad and Moulton Falls Station, where I heard, in December, a Christmas train runs with a Santa Claus greeter at the tree sales.

Caution: Participants must have water, snacks, and proper clothing for the weather of the day. Lug sole shoes and hiking poles are optional for this easy hike. Bring a brown bag lunch to eat along the trail.
