    It’s important to me to have a career that positively impacts people. I instantly saw the real effects the City has on its citizens.

    What do you enjoy about working at the City of Gresham?

    The experiences working with our community group partners and building a network in the Rockwood neighborhood.

    What do you do, in a nutshell?

    I oversee urban renewal programs, provide property management for City-owned buildings and perform community outreach.

    What's your best advice to someone entering the field?

    Be quick to ask questions. Document everything, and then document your documentation. Learn organizational systems quickly, then find ways to make them work for you.

    What are three qualities that help you excel at your job?

    Active listening, organization and prioritizing tasks.

    What was your career path?

    A bachelor's in English from Whitworth University. I’m earning a master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Concordia.

    What are the most valuable skills you learned in school that you use on the job?

    Writing and communication skills come in handy every day. From writing emails to taking notes and drawing up contracts, it’s important to be able to make a clear point very quickly.

    What was your first job?

    A decoy underage cigarette buyer for Oregon Research Institute for a study on underage cigarette sales in rural communities.
