    About the Census

The 2020 census counts the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories.

    • The information collected is used to shape our communities and determine Oregon’s representation in Washington, D.C.
    • Funds are provided to state and local governments, like Gresham, who then use that money to pay for programs and infrastructure like healthcare, housing, education and transportation.
    • Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads and other resources throughout the country, based on census data.
    • An accurate census ensures that all our community members are represented.
    • The City of Gresham relies on census data to make important decisions about local policies and delivering resources.
    • When every person is counted, we are stronger as a community. Through the census count we can make sure our diverse voices are all represented.
