Continuing our commitment to sustainability, the City has installed two grant-funded solar arrays at City Hall: solar trees and a solar carport.

Generating Renewable Energy

The new solar arrays cover about 15% of the annual electricity consumption at City Hall. The City estimates electricity cost savings up to $624,000 over 30 years.

Catching Rays

  • On the City Hall Plaza, two solar trees work year-round converting sunlight into electricity to fuel a portion of City Hall's needs.
  • In the City Hall parking lot a second solar array stands over a row of southern-facing parking spaces, creating a solar canopy.City Hall Solar Trees Illustration

Visitors can check out a monitor in the City Hall lobby to see how much solar power is being generated between the two installations.

Funding

The solar projects were funded using $500,000 in federal stimulus grants and a $124,000 grant from the Energy Trust of Oregon.
