Project Description
This Council Work Plan project will evaluate urban forestry issues and then develop a comprehensive, sustainable and integrated approach to tree management on both public and private property. This will include:
- Identifying urban forestry issues
- Proposing alternative solutions to those concerns
- Developing best management practices
The Forestry Plan will highlight how trees are an important natural resource, vital to livability and a strategic public investment. This will include an assessment of urban tree canopy size, location, diversity and number of trees. The project will also identify outreach strategies that will promote the protection and expansion of the City’s urban forest.
The Urban Forestry Subcommittee is the advising subcommittee to the Natural Resources and Sustainability Committee and staff on urban forestry issues and activities related to the Urban Forestry Management Plan, such as maintaining Tree City USA status.
