Election Information

Ballot Drop Boxes at Gresham LibraryThe City Clerk is responsible for administering the City’s municipal election activities including local referendums, initiatives, and candidate filings for City Council.

2010 Elections

  • January 26: Register to vote by January 5
  • May 18: Register to vote by April 27
  • November 2: Register to vote by October 12

May 18 Election

An election for the unexpired term of City Council Position 2 will be on the May 18 ballot. The term will expire on January 3, 2011.

  • The first date to file is January 4 and the last date to file is 5 p.m. on March 4 (Gresham Revised Code 2.08.040(3)).
  • Council Position 2 is elected at-large.

November 2 Election

For the November 2 General Election, the following City Elected Official positions will be on the ballot:

  • Mayor
  • Council Position 2
  • Council Position 4
  • Council Position 6

The first date to file is January 4 and the last date to file is 5:00 p.m. on August 19 (Gresham Revised Code 2.08.040(3)).

  • All positions are elected at-large and terms are four years in duration.

Additional Information

  • Candidates may file by declaration by paying a $10 filing fee or may file by petition by obtaining a minimum of 20 signatures of qualified city electors.

Qualifying for City Council

To qualify to run for Gresham City Council, you must be 18 years of age by the date of election and have resided in Gresham during the 12 months immediately preceding the election. All successful candidates are required by law to file an Annual Verified Statement of Economic Interest (Oregon Revised Statute 244.050), which is distributed to elected officials by the State of Oregon in March each year in office.

Initiatives and Referendums

As part of the electoral process residents may propose matters to the local ballot for consideration by voters. The State of Oregon Elections Division has the information and forms needed to begin the local initiative or referendum process.

  • The deadline to file a local measure and explanatory statements for the November 2 election is September 2.
