Charter of the City of Gresham, Oregon

The City Charter was adopted on May 2, 1978.  The City Charter may only be amended, repealed, or replaced if at least 60% of those voting pass a ballot measure to approve the changes.  The current City Charter has been revised nine times since it was adopted in 1978. The history of changes show Charter sections prior to the current language of the Charter.

Charter Review Committee

Pursuant to Section 45B of the Charter, the Gresham City Council shall appoint a Charter Review Committee to review the current language of the City's Charter every eight years.  A Charter Review Committee was last appointed by the City Council in 2011 to fulfill the requirement to review the Charter every eight years.  The Charter Review Committee Final Report proposed charter amendments which were approved by the voters on May 15, 2012.  The next Charter Review Committee shall be appointed in 2019.
