Councilor Jerry W. Hinton

  • Term of Office: January 2017 to December 2020

    Jerry W. HintonJerry Hinton was elected to Council Position 1 in November 2012 and sworn into office on Jan. 8, 2013. On Jan. 6, 2015, his colleagues elected him to serve as the 2015 Council President. Prior to joining Council, Councilor Hinton served on the City’s Finance Committee starting in 2011, and on the Citizen Involvement Committee from 2009 to 2010.

    He is general manager of Brasher’s Portland Auto Auction and has lived in Gresham since 2003.

    He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University, a Master’s in Business Administration from National University and a law degree from Concord Law School. One of his favorite hobbies is international travel, which included a two-year stint living at 14,000 feet in a mud hut in Bolivia, where he learned to speak both Spanish and the Aymara language. He is active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

    Economic development, job creation, long-term stability of City finances, and creating a family-oriented community are among his top Council priorities. “With my background, I think I can help with that,” he says. “At the end of the day, the City is a business.”

    Councilor Hinton's primary committee assignments include: Council Transportation Advisory Subcommittee, East Multnomah County Transportation Committee, Metro Policy Advisory Committee and the Sister Cities of Ebetsu Japan and Socho South Korea. He alternately supports the Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization.
