Further Information on Officer-Involved Shooting in Gresham

The East County Major Crimes Team continues to investigate the shooting involving a Gresham Police Officer yesterday at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of N.E. 162nd. Police have identified the person involved as 39-year-old Floyd Andrew Young of Portland.
Police were called to a disturbance at 9:41 p.m. on March 28 regarding a suspicious person with a bat. Four officers arrived and encountered Young in the parking lot and one officer discharged his weapon after he believed Young was going to strike him with his vehicle. The shots did not strike Young and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Young was charged with warrants unrelated to this incident. The East County Major Crimes Team is continuing its investigation and will present its findings to the district attorney for possible charges against Young.
The officer was placed on administrative leave, per policy.
